The men’s club has clinched a spot in the presti- gious Vancouver Metro Premier League next season after posting a 2-1 win over Romania S.C. last Saturday at Capilano College. The club joins Norvan S.C., West Van Trollers and Pegasus $.C. as Premier sides calling the North Shore home. That’s more than any other community except the city of Vancouver which also has tour., Considering North Shore soccer is battling nagging crit- icism aver lack of player devel- opment this is great news for the future of the game. West Van doubled-up Merritt 4-2 in the final to capture provincial bragging rights. The victory marks the first time a team from the West Vancouver Minor Hockey Association has ever won a provincial champi- asnship. However, a tough semi- final match against Powell River almost kept the West Van team out of the record books. The boys’ 16- and 17-year-olds fought -back from a 4-1 deficit in the third period to defeat Powell - River 6-4, Merritt had an equally tough task in their semi-final as they beat host team Rossland-Trail in dou- bie overtime.
