McCredie Sports Reporter In less than a month’s time there will be no fewer than 220 stalls on vhe North Shore for golfers to correct that nagging slice, In August 1991, the Lions Gate Golf Centre, a golf driving range that had operated for nine years at the Squamish band Capilano reserve, closed after the lease had expired. At the time it was the sole remaining driving range on the golf-crazy North Shore. According to a 1992 Vancouver Area Newspaper Network study, one in five residents of the North Shore listed golf:as an activity they regularly participated in. To meet that growing demand, three local operators have jumped into the driving range business.
