Golf theft draws probation

A 28-YEAR-OLD Burnaby
woman was in court recently on a
charge of stealing a golf bag, golf
clubs, golf cart, golf shoes, along
with a cassette case, cassette tapes
and two fan belts,

Ruby Ann Galloway pleaded
guilty to the charge stemming
from an incident that occurred on

Sept. 7, 1992 in West Vancouver.

Galloway received 12> months’
probation, She was required to
pay $150 restitution,

Judge Reginald Grandison
sentenced Galloway in West Van-
couver provincial court on Mon-
day, May 3.

In less than a month’s time
there will be no fewer than 220
stalls on vhe North Shore for
golfers to correct that nagging
slice,

In August 1991, the Lions Gate
Golf Centre, a golf driving range
that had operated for nine years
at the Squamish band Capilano
reserve, closed after the lease had
expired. At the time it was the
sole remaining driving range on
the golf-crazy North Shore.

According to a 1992 Vancouver
Area Newspaper Network study,
one in five residents of the North
Shore listed golf:as an activity
they regularly participated in.

To meet that growing demand,
three local operators have jumped
into the driving range business.

Takaya Developments — a Bur-
tard band-operated company —
opened its 80-stall, two-tiered
driving range in North Vancouver,
just off Mt. Seymour Parkway,
Jast October.
