Firecrackers are the small fireworks with entwined fuses used solely as noise makers. In_ themselves they are relatively innocuous, but since the market was directed towards children numerous fires, extensive property damage and severe, occasionally fatal, burns resulted. For these reasons firecrackers have been and are prohibited in the District of North Vancouver. You are urged to check with your local fire department for their requirements. The fireworks permitted and sold at local retailers are those classified as low hazard fireworks. This class was formerly designated Nov. 1 “hop goods”’ and is often called “family fireworks.”’ The main risk with this class is from fire starting elsewhere. They are not liable to explode violently, rather they function individually and may spread the fire and cer- tainly will contribute dense smoke. Fireworks of this classification may be sold to an adult, 19 years of age and over, for his own use and enjoyment on his property. He bears the responsibility of their safe use by himself or his family. Let’s all make this a happy, safe Halloween. A fireworks display sponsored jointly by the Corporation of the District of North Vancouver and District of North Vancouver Firefighters, Local 1183, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. at Norgate Park, Lynn Valley Park and Myrtle Park.
