Snowfall boosts shrinking base LOCAL SKI-area operators are praising the snow gods this week after a timely weekend snowfall replenish- ed the dwindiing stocks of snow on North Shore mountains, By Elizabeth Collings News Reporter With 60 centimetres of new snow falling between Friday and Sunday, Cypress Bowi received the largest dumping of snow. All lifts are operating and ski condi- tions are excellent on a base of 288 centimetres, according to Mark Gascoigne, Cypress’ mar- keting coordinator. “We still had lots of snow, but there were a number of runs, especially with southwest ex- posures, which were losing snow,’’ he said. ‘‘What really hurts us is when the Cut (on Grouse Moun- tain) has no snow. People look at the Cut and say ‘Cypress has no snow,’ and it’s often not the case.’ Grou-ze Mountain received more than SC centimetres of new snow over the weekend and now has a 21S-centimetre base. It is operating all but its back ski runs. Mount Seymour is also repor- ting excellent skiing conditions with a 230-centimetre base and 45 centimetres of new over the weekend. According to Ian Humphries, Seymour Ski Country’s marketing coordinator, Seymour wasn’t hut- ting as much as Grouse Mountain before the snowfall because its tuns do not have a southern ex- posure. Electronic devices may be used Fram page 1 is “ooking at ways we can do something better.’’ After Peterson was alerted, a group of Pringle’s friends and NSRT members combed the North Shore. Pringle’s body was found by his friend, Jim Tupper, at ap- proximately 11 a.m. on Saturday. Pringle had spent two nights and a day wandering North Shore strects wearing slippers and py- jamas. At one point dvrring his journey, he was spotted peering into a window at Brooksbank school. Said Baumann, ‘‘Both the pro- cedures at the hespital and at the RCMP failed John. Most impor- tant, though, is to realize that the system would have failed any pa- tient in a mentally confused state — this was not a problem unique to John’s situation.” Baumann advocates attaching electronic tags to patients, ‘‘Much like what is routinely done in clothing stores to discourage shop- lifting,’’ he said. Said Lynn Best, LGH vice- president of nursing, ‘‘We have explored electronic mechanisms here. Obviously this (Pringle’s death) will bring it up again.”’ According to Best the concept was shelved earlier due to con- siderations of cost and practicali- ty. ys Fresh Cut Flower \% = SPECIAL This week ie Freesia 1sems 27 Gerbera Daisy 5 stems De / Tulips 5 stems De Daffodils 5 sins 1% Personal Shopping Only For Quality, Selection and Service 1821 Marine Dr, West Vancouver 922-4171 922-3968
