NORTH VANCOUVER’S Mike Langford drove bis Rawlson to a
third-place finish at Westwood Raceway recently.

Langford was attempting to break his own lap record which he
set three years ago.

In 1987, Langford broke a 13-year-old race record in *D” sports
racing — originally set by the team of Bob and John Randall.

However, rainy conditions prevented him from setting a new
record.

Because Langford never qualified, he had to start at the back
of the 15-car field in the pouring rain.

Due to a wet and slippery track, Langford couldn't win the race
and break the record.

Grouse wins
baseball majors

PLAYOFFS WERE held last week in both the major and minor
Forest Hills baseball Jeagues with the Capilano minors team
squeaking by Whitman in the final game with a score of 9-8 to
become minor league champions.

In the majors, Skyline and Grouse Mountain battled it out with
Skyline coming from behind 6-1 in the bottom of the last inning
to win the semi-final.

Fine pitching performances by Matthew Anderson for Grouse
Mountain and Greg Phillips for Skyline made this an exciting

ame. :
8 In the final game, Grouse Mountain defeated Skyline to become
the league champions.

Pitching for Skyline were Kris Lucas and Damon UlImi while
Christian Jacobs was the winning pitcher for Grouse Mountain.

Lawn bowlers
win BC fours

A FOURS team from the North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club
will be representing B.C. at the Canadian finals after they won
the men's B.C. fours lawn bowling championships held at the
Terminal City Lawn Bowling Club.

The finals, where nine provincial teams compete, will be held in
Regina from Aug. 19 ta 24.

The North Vancouver squad includes skip Peter Fish, 43, David
Brown, 52, David Duncalf, 56, and Mark Raymond, 27. They
defeated the 1989 silver medallist team 21-12, led by skip Henry
Clarke, Jim Logan Junior, Bob Scott, and John Kohanuck of the
Vancouver South Lawn Bowling Club.

Last year’s B.C. champions, skipped by North Vancouver's
Bob Scullion were eliminated in the semi-final.

This is the first time the Fish rink have played together.

Little leaguer
makes rare play

HATS OFF TO Todd Cleppingdale.

The eight-year-old shortstop completed a rare, unassisted triple
play in a recent Forest Hills Little League T-Ball game.

Todd caught a fly ball, tagged a runner between second and
third base, then stepped on third for a third out as a runner broke
from thied for home.
