The day is not far off when
your physician will not only
prescribe how often to take
certain medications each
day, but will actually specify
the exact times to take them.
Each of us has a number of
biological clocks that govern
our cycles of body temper-
ature, hormone production,
cell division and other cycles
such as sleep and blood
pressure.

It has been shown ‘that
drugs given to control blood
pressure work best if taken
when the patient's blood
pressure is at its peak, and
that late afternoon or carly
evening hours are best for
drugs that affect asthma and
certain diseases of the lungs

The new branch of
medical science that studics
such time-related affects of
drugs is called
chronopharmacology It 1s
expected that these studies
will result in lower doses.

Here's a note of caution
for Canadians heading for
the sunny south and who
want to look tanned on

Women who use supple-
mental hormones (estrogen)
to relieve the symptoms of
menopause are half as likely
to die of heart disease as
those who do not use it - is
the conclusion reached in an
initial study conducted by
University of Southern Cali-
