Strata
bid
granted

North Vancouver City
council last week granted a
strata conversion, the first
since they adopted their
policy of not allowing strata
conversions of rental units in
the City until the rental
vacancy rate climbs to-three

percent.
The owners of seven
townhouses at 1535

St.Georges Avenue in North
Vancouver finally persuaded
council to grant the con-
version after proving that
they intended all along for
the units to be strata.

Council was provided with
documentation showing that
the townhouses were
constructed as strata units
but because of an crror they
were not registered as such.

“I think it is a case where
justice has to be done,” said
Alderman Bill Sorenson. “It
is only just that we allow this
strata to be permitted.”

The decision to allow the
stratification was passed
unanimously, with cven
Alderman Stella Jo Dean
who said she has never voted
for the stratificatdon of a
rental unit, voting in favour
Another outspoken = op-
ponent of stratification of
rental units, Alderman
Prank Marcino, was absent.

The decision should
finally put to rest the item
which has been on and off
