Thomas graduated from
Carson Graham _ Senior
Secondary School this spring
and won the award by
scoring a 97.67 per cent
average on the provincial
government — scholarship
examinations held in June.
Now he is enrolled in the
faculty of Science at the
University of British
Columbia where he is aiming
for a PhD, probably in
physics or mathematics.

Learning is
everything

“What's important to me is to go on learning,”
says Thomas Robert Stevenson — who at 17 has
probably learned more about some things than
many of us learn in a lifetime. An avid pursuer of
scientific knowledge, Tom is this year’s winner of
the Governor General’s Silver Medal, the highest
honor awarded for academic achievement to a
high school student in British Columbia.

not that much difference,”

“If I had stuck to the core
subjects alone, it would have
been a lot less challenging —
perhaps even boring if that's
all I had done,” says
Thomas.
