Volta have recently been
“adopted” under Foster
Parents Plan of Canada by
Melvyn Johnson of North
Van.

His contribution of $38

per month brings help not
only to the foster children
themselves, but to every
member of their families.
The total annual income
of Borhan's family (father,
mother, three sisters and a
brother) is approximately

subsistence on their produce
and animals.

The $19 for each family
provides free medical and
dental care, free
prescriptions, the sustained
guidance and counselling of
social workers and the
benefits of many special
programs. Several of these
programs affect entire
communities, providing
wells for pure water, and
schools for the children.

All foster children and
their brothers and sisters,
age permitting, are en-
couraged to attend school.
Where suitable, vocational
training courses are made
available, free of charge, for

foster children, their
brothers and sisters, and
where practical, their
parents.

supporting. All programs are
adapted to the needs of each
country and latterly tend to
be concentrated in rural
areas, where the whole
community can benefit,
particularly through mass
inoculations etc.

Foster parents and foster
children correspond
regularly (letters are tran-
slated by PLAN) and often
develop warm and _ af-
fectionate relationships
which mean as much to the
child as the material and
financial aid.

Foster Parents Plan is
currently working in
seventeen countries in Asia,
Africa, Central and South
America. Over 120,000
children are currently being
aided by individuals, groups
and families in Canada,
Australia, The Netherlands
and U.S.A.
