When you're feeding a family group, you'll soon get the idea. On the outer islands, many restaurants close up at nine o'clock, so give yourselves plenty of time by starting carly. A lot of restaurants feature the “happy hour” when drinks are half price. A chi-chi tastes twice as good when you're paying half as much. Time varies but usually 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. 15. Take along a supply of “goodie bags”. The best is a cheap net draw-string affair that allows you to collect even the smallest shells. The best place to find super shells is near rocks. 16. Most family ac- commodation has a refrigerator. Find yourself a good/ low-priced = super- market right away and you won't-bo shelling out money for thé local McDonald's. Spur-of-the-moment picnics are a lot casier when you have the food on hand. Many of the parks have barbeques but you usually have to supply your own coals, It's fun to watch a Hawaiian sunset while your own groceries sizzle. 17.
