Re: Bard on the Beach review of As
You Like It (June 26 News This Week
section).

I have read Martin Miilerchip’s article
and I must defend Bard on the Beach and
point out a few mistakes made.

For instance, there are two Jaques!
The melancholy one, a courtier of Duke
Sr. and the other one, Jaques de Boyes,
who is described by Orlando in the first
scene: “My brother Jaques keeps at
school and reports goldenly of his prof-
its.”

Arden is no school.

Three things tell the audience the dif-
ference: the program, the fact that there
are two different actors, and that these

two actors are in one scene together.

T thought any fool could tell the dif-
ference but T suppose | was wreng.

Also, there is a gaping hole in your
article where you have not mentioned
Phebe or Silvius (played by Jane Spence
and David Mackay) whose performances
were tight and hilarious.

You alk about the lighting being
plain. It’s a forest.

What do you expect it to be?
Spotlights and all?

The scene with the deer, too. It was
pagan and haunting and spooky. | loved
it.

You say the ladders were under-used.
Think about it. It’s a forest and climbing
the ladders is like climbing the trees.
