| Call out for artist nominations

NORTH Shore residents are invited
to nominate North Shore perform-
. ing, visual or literary artists for a
FANS award.

‘The Fund for the Arts on the Worth
» Shore (FANS). was created last year by
he North Shore Arts Commission to help
individual artists through scholarships,
bursaries and grants, and to assist small
arts groups by providing the seed money
‘or projects or performances.

The annual FANS Award is presented

a nationally known artist who is a res-

ident of the North Shore. The award itself
is a work of art commissioned by a local
artist.

Last year's award recipient was North
Van ‘resident Robert Clothier, a noted
actor and sculptor, who was presented
with a glass sculpture by Marina Papais.

This year’s award, a carved cedar and
glass sculpture, has been created by
Papais and First Nations carver Rick
Harry.

The award will be presented at the
second annual FANS Night, Oct. 8, at the
Squamish Nation Recreation Centre. The

gala evening will featuring a showcase of
emerging artists, a public report on the
work of the commission and the presen-
tation of the FANS Award.

The candidate must be a living resi-
dent of the North Shore who has a sub-
stantial and nationally recognized body
of work in the performing, literary or
visual arts.

Nomination forms can be picked up at
the North Shore Arts Commission office.
