WILLIAM GEORGE Jeffrey,
a former resident of North
Vancouver who. was recog-
nized as a master carver, died
March 7 in Surrey.

He was 95.

A resident of West Keith Road
remembers Jeffrey, who was her
neighbor in North Vancouver dur-
ing the 1970s, as being well-known
and respected on the North Shere.

He carved totem poles destined
for Ottawa, museums around the
world and Adelaide, Australia in
his local garage.

The totem in Ottawa was com-
missioned by the B.C. government
to mark the B.C. Centennial ‘71
celebrations.

Students from Queen Mary
Community School often watched
him work while he explained what
he was doing.

On the North Shore, Jeffrey’s
totem poles stand in Horseshoe
Bay and at the West Vancouver
Community Centre.
