WV bicyclists need
parental guidance

Dear Editor:

Re: Cycling an City Sidewalk.

Shave been made to undersiand
that there tsa West Vancouver
bytaw which prohibits the above
activily.

Many cyclists (of various ages)
do not abide by it, nor do they seem
to be aware of it

A poiat in case recently was
when two young helmeted lads
rode towards me, but dismounted
fest we collide. This occurred on
busy [7th Street and Marine Drive,
and it happens often.

In a non-provecative manner
und tone of voice, | asked them if
they knew they should not cycle on
the sidewalks, whereupon they

hopped back on their bikes.

As i watched them continue
down the sidewalk. the liad in the
rear turned around and gave me
what is termed “the finger.” risking
the danger of plowing into a pedes-
Irian once more.

Siost of us are not so feeble that
we are unable to dodge cyclists rid-
ing on the sidewalks, but why
shoula pedestrians have to be on
the alert in that regard?

Which brings me to the point:
How about faw enforcement? How
about the role of the schools as to
teaching good citizenship?

How about parental guidance?

Should Coun, Stella Dean not be
more concerned for our physical
well-being and our pursuit of hap-
piness, rather then attempting to
further curtail our already medieval
freedoms?

For instance: the threat to life of
monstrous semi-trailer trucks thun-
dering down 3rd Street, rather than

-the industrial lower road.
They roar along at all hours

through a school crosswalk at
Mahon Street and 3rd, blasting ‘the
air-horn at any delay and polluting
a residential street with carbon
monoxide, dirt and noise.

Please re-urrange your priorities
Ms. Dean. The racket caused by the
illegal use of the engine
emitting from these huge rigs is
interfering with our video enjoy-
ment.
