Studies indicate that in 1988 elec- tricity generated by nuclear power in Ontario will have had an estimated 36 per cent cost advan- tage over coal-fired generation. Nuclear power plants also significantly reduce acid gas emis- sions into the atmosphere. In addition to its economic and environmental advantages, nuclear power provides an invaluable con- tribution to the world of medicine. They decided to try framing their own pictures. The pleasure they derived from using their own creativity developed into a fascinating hobby. Friends who admired their craftsmanship started bringing them their pain- tings and prints for framing. Ron and Herb's hobby had become a business. They switched off their desktop computers, said goodbye to colleagues and moved a couple of blocks to the Bentall Centre Mall, to open Osterson’s Framing & Art. It's aclassic family business! Ron and Herb run the shop and do the fram- ing with their two employees while wife Joan keeps the books. Next Saturday there'll be another Osterson’s shop: 1324 Lonsdale, North Vancouver. At 1800 square feet of showroom, this is one of the largest art shop- cum-gallery arid framing stores in Greater Vancouver. Enough space to accom- modate the more than 400 framed artworks and to give visitors ample room to browse and view unhurriedly. "We don't want anyone ever to feel intimidated in our shops,” say Ron & Herb. “There's no precious snobbiness, no sales pressure. We're happy to have people just come in and look."
