As a motorcycle driver with 23 years experience | am outraged at the lax attitude of this young (i'm 29) society's regard for personal welfare. Having read several books on the country, I learned that even 100 years ago there were relatively few blacks in the country. In re- cent years there has been a tremendous influx of blacks from neighboring countries. It' would seem that anyone, black, white, red, or yellow moves from one place to another for the simple reason that they believe things and life to be better in the selected area which they move to. (i moved from Ontario to B.C.) In view of this, why are hun- dreds of thousands of blacks con- tinually moving to a country in which, if one believes the media, they are to be persecuted? Surely life for the black in South Africa is much better than in the country they left. Would we Canadians not object to another race of people invading our shores and trying to overthrow our government? Whether they came from outer space or Russia? As for the vote, many thousands of these people have no knowledge of what a vote is ( how many voted in our own civic elections?). Thank you Doug Collins for taking the time to find out the truth about a country which stands firm in its own beliefs. I only wish Canada was ruled with the same determination. Wiltiam Fitzer North Vancouver Woman praises WV Fire Dept. Dear Editor: A big thank you goes out to the Local 1 West Vancouver Fire Department. ‘ My husband fell. Being unable to get him up myself, I called the emergency number and told them (non emergency). Within minutes, two young men arrived and had him back in bed. They were polite, friendly, effi- cient and sympathetic to our plight. We were so grateful to them. We are indeed fortunate to have such dedicated young men working for us in West Vancouver. Mrs. F.
