These students, aged between 15 and 18 and representing up to 28 nationalities, will arrive in August. They have iong dreamed of com- pleting one year of high school in British Columbia while escablishing strong ties with a Ca- nadian host family. Interculture Canada is seeking the support of local families to help make their dream come true. “ft's an ideal opportunity fer any family to learn about another part of the world while sharing a part of their own world,’ says Joyce Lepine, a volunteer with [n- terculture Canada. ‘‘lt’s also a very rewarding human experi- ence.’ Lepine explains that all students undergo 2 careful screening pro- cess in their own country before being accepted by I[nterculture Canada, a not-for-profit organiza- tion specializing in international student exchange programs. Stu- dents are matched with families of compatible interests to ensure a harmonious climate for exchange. This year, Interculture Canada will receive 200 foreign students, some of whom have not yet been placed with a host family. “All you need is a generous and understanding outlook to help make the student feel like a member of the family all year long,’’ said Lepine. As a member of AFS_Inter- culture Programs, Interculture Canada is part of the world’s larg- est network of high school ex- change programs. Founded in 1947 and operating in 66 countries, this educational movement promotes intercultural jearning and interna- tional development.
