she adds. ‘‘The North Shore
Neighborhood House is
more aware and answerable
to the needs of the North
Van area than any other.
They continually respond to
the needs of the people as
they arise.’’

Yet another service of-
fered by the House is the
Home Visiting for Seniors,
run by Elizabeth Milligan.
She, along with volunteers,
visit up to 45 to SO seniors
per month. The service has
been operating since 1981.

Milligan is also the coor-
dinator of the House’s In-
come Tax program. Each
March, a representative
from the Institute of
Chartered Accountants helps
persons over age 65 with the
filing of their income tax
returns.

In addition, volunteers
from the North Shore In-
formation” and Volunteer
Centre offer income tax
advice to unemployed per-
sons or others on income
assistance.

Both services are free of
charge Prior to the past
income tax return deadline,

over 90 persons took ad-
vantage of the service.

Two other services include
the Legal Advice for
Seniors, offered once a
month at a clinic conducted
by legal information
counsellor Pearl
MacKenzie, and the Seniors
Hot Lunch program, which
is Offered four days a week
at the House.

Although the Legal Ad-
vice clinic has only managed
to draw about two seniors
per session, the Hot Lunch
program has attracted up to
300 seniors per month.

Coordinator Janice
DeLuca says the Hot Lunch
program is open to all
seniors for only $1.75 per
lunch.

Meanwhile, the month of
May will mark the re-
Opening of the UBC law
students’ legal advice centre.

To be conducted by law
student Alex McWilliam
until August, the centre will
offer legal advice on topics
ranging from _ landlord/te-
nant disputes to wills.

Funded bv the law
Foundation and the federal
government's Summer
Canada program, the centre
will be conducted on a
drop-in basis. Chents must
meet certain. eligibility
requirements, however, the
actual service will be free
