A8 - Wednesday, March 7, 1984 - North Shore News NORTH VAN CN has plan OVER $20 million worth of improvements are being planned by CN Rail for the Lynn Creek yards and Nep- tune Terminals in North Vancouver. By JOANNE McDONALD The improvements are part of the overall expansion plan by CN in the greater Van- couver area which will total $132.6 million. In a presentation to North Vancouver District council Monday, Mike Waslyk of the CN planning department said some work on the eastern end of the Lynn Creek yards will hinge on coming negotiations with the Squamish Indian Band regarding land in the area. Waslyk said although there are some operating problems at the Neptune Terminals near the Lynn Creek yards, that these will be alleviated first by two additional tracks onsite at the Neptune yards probably by 1984, with the second phase of the Neptune improvements calling for two new tracks west of Harbour Ave. through to the Neptune gate. These latter tracks would handle potash and coal! shipments. An interim plan for the Lynn Creek yards will see mew tracks installed at the western end of the yards as well as new tracks installed south of the present tracks, located just west of Harbour Ave. Waslyk added the Master plan for the Lynn Creek and Neptune Terminals also pro- vides for an additional coal loop. which could accom- modate two coal trains onsite al any given time The improvements would enable Neptune Terminals to receive annual lonnages up to 6.5 million tons for coal ship- ments and four mithon tons of potash by 1986 As far as the BCR-CN interchange 1s concerned, Waslyk said it would cost an estimated $10 million to ex- pand the existing facility. In addtion, Waslyk said CN's proposal to install new unit tracks at the Vancouver Wharves would improve overall operations, reduce interchange operations, up capacity levels oy 3.3 million tons, prove to be tess costly and accommodate 98 car trains.
