FIFTIETH wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. G.R.
(Bob) Rawlings of West Vancouver was celebrated this
month with a reception for friends and relatives at the
Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. Mrs. Rawlings (for-
merly Ethel M. Watson) was born in Kitsilano, while
Mr. Rawlings is a native of Cardiff, Wales who settled

Mary Sayers passed away
November 5S at Altamont
private hospital, aged 88.

A native of Sussex,
England, Mrs. Sayers came -
to Canada as a war bride in

1919 and moved to West -

Van seven years later. Her
husband Ernest died in 1938.

A member. of the West

Van Legion. she loved to.
walk and was a familiar
figure in the community --

always wearing hat and
gloves, and carrying her
purse. She is survived by

Judging from the = sudden
upswing in business the week
after I fingered the Grinch as the
main .cause of Christmas auto
woes, the beast must have been
afoot on the North Shore. Often
he 1s seen with a bottle in one
hand and a ‘stick tn the other,
chasing people home late of a
holiday night. He certainly kept
the Crash Pad elves busy during
that week, hammering out dents
and the like. A lot of readers beset
by the Grinch used our much
touted emergency service, keeping
their cars roadworthy while the
red tape slowly spun out

We heard a story

apparently

true, about a woman who drove
her red station wagon to the
circus grounds. It Is then alleged
that a rogue elephant inflicted
serious damage on her vehicle by
using it as a love seat. The circus
managers were deeply apologetic,
saying the elephant had done
impromptu body work on red cars
in the past, but their insurance
would cover it The woman was
on her way to a body shop to get
a damage estimate when she was
stopped by an accident Involving
two other cars Minutes later, the
medics took one look at her car
and rushed over to give aid When
the woman clatmed that she
hadn't been involved in any
accident, but that an elephant had
sat on her car, she was bundled
into the ambulance for shock and
possible head injuries, desite her
most vehement protests

office load while I was in sick bay,
he is off to a place called Otter
Crest, Oregon, for a well-eamed
rest. scant compensation for 6
day weeks and 14 hour days, but
that's the body business for you.
Ed was the one who
demonstrated what | had long
suspected .——s_ that =| was not
indispensible. It was he who said
on my retum, “A good scare ts
better than good advice, . .”
