Ellsworth Dickson Many people with children have been experiencing difficult times trying to obtain decent accommodation. So many landlords tell them it is an ‘adult oriented’ building. Landlords are adamant in stating that some buildings truly are not suitable for kids. Is this fair? This issue the Inquiring Reporter asks: "Should landlords be able to say ‘No’ to children?” John Jickling North Vancouver Unfortunately, they do have this right. You can’t tell a man who can live in his “castle.” It is too bad there isn't enough ac- commodation for families right now. Denise Dickey = North Vancouver Children should have rights like anyone else. 1 think it is wrong for a landlord to turn down a good tenant because of a child. Two Greater Vancouver Regional District transit planners told members of the three North Shore councils that the planned LRT system would benefit North Shore mainly through reduced transit costs. But GVRD planner Gerard Farry said an LRT link across Burrard Inlet would be expensive and would benefit only limited areas of the North Shore. Population growth on the North Shore, he said, does not indicate the same need for rapid transit as in Surrey, Coquitlam and Richmond, where the LRT lines are planned to end. He suggested the would reduce overall transit operating costs, beginning in the mid 1990's, and that North Shore residents could eventually benefit through lower transit surcharges on their Hydro bills. NN GVRD_ design team member Anton Kuipers said North Shore transit can be improved with park-and-nde schemes and the special lanes to put buses directly on to the Lions Gate and Second Narrows bridges ahead of auto lineups. He agreed with Farry that the cost of any scheme involving commuter trains across the North Shore would be prohibitively high. Apart from represen- tatives of the three councils only about 15 members of the public attended the meeting in North Van City hall.
