Vancouver's best and brightest martini
mixmasters put on a show earlier this month at
the First International Martini Classic
Challenge.

Eight bars in total from both sides of the
border took on the challenge, presenting their
best classic martinis, specialty martinis and
martini food. In Vancouver on Feb. 5, judges
sipped and sampled at 900 West restaurant
and Wine Bar at Hotel Vancouver, Gerard in
the Sutton Piace Hotel, Delilah's and Joe
Fortes. The next day, they valiantly boarded a
southbound bus for Seattle, where they tasted
offerings at Oliver's in the Mayflower Park
Hotel, the Metropolitan Grill, the Four Seasons

The international winners were:
m 900 West Resieurant and Wine Bar for the
Best Specialty Martini. “After the Frost" was
created by bartender Monica Acs using
Bombay Sapphire Gin and Mission Hill Grand
Reserve Icewine.
@ Oliver's, in Seattie’s Mayflower Park Hotel,
took top classic martini honours with “The
Ultimate Chil!” created by bartenders Mike
Rule and Pat Boyd: and,
w The Four Seasons Olympic Hotel, Garden
Court won the award for best international
martini food for the “Seatilite Sampler” creat-
ed by the hotel's executive chef, Gavin
