bunch of crazy, crazy things
.. We had a monkey that was
supposed to walk down the
street with the trainer, bur
just before we went to cam-
era, it took a chunk out of
the trainer and bolred! It
was perched up on top of
one of the buildings. The
trainer had to go to hospital,
of course, so they got as his
replacement a man with a
boa constrictor.

The funny thing was that
the most amusing part of
him walking down the street
was himself. He fed this
really bizarre limp. Ir was
more interesting to watch
him than the snake.

Anyway, we also had the
“World's Smallest Car.” The
owner dressed up in a gorilla
suit and along with him rode
a midget clown, and he
would throw candy to the
kids.

That was ait amazing trip,
it was a lot of fun. It was onc
of the great weeks of doing
set deve, it was totally pain-
less. Just working with che
designer, we got along like
friends. The other set dresser
was fantastic, Shannan.

MV: It sounds like that
was ane of the better
times you've had as a ser
dresser.
JB: Yeah, it was a lor of fun.
You know we work so hard,
or so long and sometimes
hard, you don't have anys
spare time to have fun
because all you’re doing is
working. You leave che
house at five or six in the
morning and (are) getting
home at nine or 10 at night.
You're not going out to the
bar or anything. So, you:
know, you’ve got to make
someone else laugh during
the day...
But, Fam really lucky ina

change things they want to.

MV: Do you have any
other memorable experi-
ences?

JB: We built a cannery ruwn
in Squamish for Free Wéily 3.
It was great, we spent five
weeks building, a derelict
town — people in film seem
to like derelict things, if it’s
old they want to make it
new, if its new they want to
make it old. Ie was cool. We
got to hang fots of pipe and
work on “genic” lifts. That
was great because you are 60
fect up in the air watching
the sun go down. And we
did a little “genie” jousting.

MV: What's genie joust-
ing?

JB: Well you take a pipe ora
pole and there's two genic
lifts coming at each other
playing chicken, It’s more
mith than anvething.

MV: So what was the
worst experience you’ve
had? When you've just
wanted to say “get me
out of here”!

JB: Um rich with animosity
towards the business in the
sense that { have no outside
life, and it’s killing nie, and
I'm exhausted, and this is
jast a movie, and we're
working way too hard ior
“Junkfood for the brain.”
Bur, you know, F can’t chink
ofa single thing or one
instance that’s been bad.

MV: How much longer
do you think you'll be
doing this?

JB: Now that’s the $64,000
question.
