Receives unanimous approval

NORTH .VANCOUVER could
be hosting the B.C. Seniors
Games in 1998 now that both
North Vancouver councils have
approved the proposal.

District council recently followed
. North Vancouver City’s example and
unanimously approved a $0.35 per

capita levy in order to raise the
required S44.800,
The drafi budget for the games is

pegged at $226,800. Director of

recreation Gary Young expects the
2.000 participants to spend approxi-
mately $1 million on the North Shore.

It is expected that well over half
the budget will be raised by fees and

for our community.” Coun. Don Bell
reminded council that North Van does
not yet know whether its proposal
will be successful.

“This is only a bid. By the time we

tion” said Bell.

Coquitlam, in 199]. was the last
Lower Mainiand community to host
the Seniors Games.

Jan Cousins, head of the North
Vancouver Community Sport and
Recreation Advisory Council said.
“The experience we will gain foilow-
ing the B.C. Winter Games in 1996
will ensure an event of high quality
and excitement both for the partici-
pants and the community.”
