Its current tenant is the best of
the lot.

The location, with its view of
waterfront West Vancouver and
Vancouver harbor was largely
wasted on the fish and chip joints,
and La Belle Sole persevered far
longer than its ownership’s enthusi-
asm warranted, .

You know things have changed
for the better when, instead of the
seedy little elevator of previous
culinary occupants, diners are
greeted at the ground floor entrance
of the Granite Cafe by a deep teal-
green stairway decorated with opu-
lent pots filled with flowers wel-
coming all to “walk this way,
please.”

Upstairs is sophisticated expanse
of cool aquatic tones, granite table
tops, a central holding bar and chef
Paul MacEwen’s farge open
kitchen.

Granite staff, led by restaurant
co-owner-Simon Fawkes, is outfit-
ted in chic black with white aprons.
Service is swift, friendly and
sophisticated.

Lighting is discreet; the sound-
track is Dexter Gordon and Van
Morrison. ;

Chef MacEwen's menu, pre-
