The One-on-One Program was created to address the needs of children and communities. The West Keith Road district in North Vancouver has close to 9% of chil- dren living in a single-parent home. The opportunity for that parent, io spend time with their children is limited and to take time out and read with them is often not possi- ble. The One-to-One pregram allows qualified trained tutors to . spend quality time with the chil- dren, reading with them two to three times a week. The objective is to provide intensive short-term skills, so that the children can become independent self-learners, “There has been an increase in each child's reading level. they're confident about their abilities to read both in the classroom and at home,” Carleton eiementary school principal Tom Hansen said. To date the program has expanded into five separate ele- mentary schools, with over 60 val- unteers providing their time and commiunent to the program. AS one volunteer said “each and every Jay you see a child proud of their achievement, it makes it all worthwhile.” In our relaxing lounge _ 3:30-7:00pm daily RESERVATIONS GLADLY...
