flow would not be disrupted with

upgrade-expected to start this year
on the dam.

‘Archibald said an application
for funding will be going to the
GVRD’s water board this month
concerning the seismic upgrade.

“Interim”. earthquake upgrading
involves making the dam resistant
to a lurge earthquake, but it would
not meet all the current criteria for
earthquake resistance, said
Archibald. |.

An interim earthquake upgrade
was to be conducted because the
GVRD has yet to decide on how it
wil! increase needed drinking water
capacity for the Lower Mainland.

The options include:

water was turned off, the Seymour
River contained approximately 300
summer and winter-run steelhead,
which are particularly vulnerable
now because they are spawning.

He said approximately 6,500
coho returned - the river last fall to

spawn and hundreds of thousands -

of their offspring are now emerging
