the Playhouse Theatre’s
first production of 1993 last
Friday night.

As guests arrived for the fun
opening of the- comedy Lips
Together, Tecth Apart,. they were
greeted by Andy Graffitt! and his
toe-tapping, finger-snapping
Harp ..Dog Brown and the
Bloodhounds band.

Happily no one was noticeably
splashed during the play by the
actors’ use of the real f2-foot
swimming pool that is the focal
point of Pearl Betlesen'’s fabulous
beach house set.

However, moisture was spotted
on some cheeks and hankies did
come out for some poignant mo-
ments in the third act.

Another interesting hightight of
the show was the on-stage shower
scene that starred North Van's
Stephen E. Miller, who was finely
tuned to all the right angles...

After the show, Larry Lillo in-
troduced the acclaimed actress and
director Susan Cox as his sue-
cessor as artistic director,

They'll be here for the next
couple of weeks while she and
Larry and the playhouse staf
finalize next season's plays...

It was simply a beautiful pas
repast that was orchestrated last
Monday night by the general
manager of the Waterfront Cenire
Hotel, Michael Kaile, in his hotel
for the Vancouver Symphony Or-
chestra’s visiting guest soloist, Jon
Kimura Parker.

Special guests enjoying not only
the reception and dinner but the
outstanding concert as well were
United States Consul General
David Johnson and his wife,
Scarlett Swan; the: Bank of Hong
Kong’s genial refugee from
Toronto, Bill Dalton and his wife,
Starr; and Harbour Ferries boss
Graham Clarke, whose Royal Sea
Link ‘operations are. going cx-
tremely well, and his wife, Elise.

weighed in at 7 pounds 11 ounces.

He'll be great company for the
Johnsons’ two little girls. Con-
gratulations!...

Another deserving person who
is up for special recognition this
summer is the gentleman who has
successfully secured and staged the
annual major league Molson’s In-
dy Races in Vancouver.

The president of Molson
Breweries, West Vancouver’s John
Winter, will be the recipient of the
Variety Club’s 10th annua! Gold-
en Heart Community Achievement
Award at a gala fundraising din-
ner al the Hyatt on June 2.
