MAILBOX Festive season can be perilous for pets Dear Editor: Coid weather and the festive season bring special perils for pets. ° The sweet taste of antifreeze is a deadly attraction for animals. Beware of leaky radiators and dispose of radiator fluids safely by putting them back in the container and thoroughly Mushing any spills. Better yet, avoid the problem completely by using one of the hew, non-toxic brands of anti- freeze that use propolene glycol instead of ethyl glycol. Two brand names locally are Otto-Cool and Kool-Tone. Like people, pets are susceptible to cold, wet or freezing condi- tions. Hf you dog prefers to sleep outdoors, provide him with a Advertisement Dear Editor: I am writing with concern to an advertisement in your Dee. 4 issue of the North Shore News, Please refer to the bottom left corner of page four. This ad for the North Shore Humane Society, showing a pic- ture of dead animals, | personally find in poor taste, not only on the part of the Humane Socicty, but also your paper in presenting this to your readership. { totally agree with the ad that we must take responsibility in car- ing for our pets by having them draft-free dog house with clevated floors and insulation. Cats should never be allowed to roam freely any time of year, as hundreds are victims of traffic, predation or neighbors who dislike a trespassing cat. Refrain from giving an animal as a Christmas gift, especially a surprise gift. Instead, why not put a photo and a gift certificate under the tree so a pet can be chosen from your local animal shelter after the excitement and bustle of the holi- day season have passed? And remember, tinsel is a dan- gerous and irresistable toy. Don't even have it in the house. Mary Auerbach Vancouver Humane Society in poor taste spayed and neutered, but | can’t respect the way in which it has been presenied. Where will the lines be drawn? Will wo next be faced with pic- tures of aborted fetuses fram the representatives for Pro-Life? Animal or human — life is life. I realize that the paper is fund- ed by advertising but ft would hope that the advertising depart- ment of the North Shore New would review their policy on cun- ning such advertisements, Liz Halforan North Vancouver REGU ee BOXING DAY 1 DAY ONLY EVERYTHING REG, PRICES -NO RETURNS-NO EXCHANGES LAR SALE STARTS JANUARY 2ND % 905;; CLOTHING CO.
