The Sheltons produced a lot of art during that time and were well-represented by Toronto gal- leries. But they were discouraged by the lack of in-person artist- viewer contact. Art, says Barry, was being run by the “middle- “man art galleries.” At that point they decided to mount 2 major show of their work right in their home. “That's why we started the studio exhibits...so it would be a point of access for the public,” says Barry. “Artists have always had a place in the society of man, but now art is being run by the galieries. We really feel we're here to bring it back inte the communi- Sixteen exhibits and 11 years later, the Sheltons have proved their point about public access to art. Last year they launched their first Vancouver home studio ex- hibit, and it turned out to be a real success despite a torrential downpour. Their next exhibit is Oct. 19 and 20 from noon to 5:30 p.m., and they’re hoping they'll attract an even better response.
