THE REDEVELOPMENT of the Odeon theatre site on
Marine Drive in West Vancouver resurfaced at West Van-
couver District Council’s Monday night meeting.

A development permit applica-
tion to built a three-storey, com.
mercial/residential building with
an underground parking garage at
1563 Marine Drive in Ambleside
was referred to council's plamiing
and land use comniittee.

“Council has some real concerns
about this development,’ said ac-
ting mayor Mark Sager.

The design was submitted by the

Pacific Architectural Group and
includes a pedestrian arcade that
would link Clyde Avenue west of
18th Street while improving pedes-
trian access to Marine Drive.
Because the site is zoned for
two-storey commercial use, council
must decide whether a third storey

and a steniticunt foadential com-
ponent should be permitted.

The current proposal
consist of commercial space
ground floor facing on to Marine
Drive, 24 residential units on two

levels and on the ground level at
the back.

the basis of several criteria, in-
cluding meritorious design, view
impact on surrounding residents,
miainteranc. of Sillage character
and a tc’ai square footage equal ta
or less than that of a two-storey
building.

Under the current proposal, a
covered pedestrian walkway is
proposed through the site to con-
nect. Marine Drive with Clyde
Avenue, which is being developed
as a village focal point.
