Children can learn about arthritis

YOUNG CHILDREN whose parents have arthritis
will be able to learn and understand more about the
disease thanks to Arthritis Society staffin Penticton.

Working with focal children, parents, professional
colleagues and volunteers, the Penticton group
designed and developed a coloring book titled My
Mom Has Arthritis.

In the book, one child tells another about his mom,
and about what having arthritis means — both to her
and to him. The language is simple but informative.

Lively illustrations show how the boy and_ his
muther cope with her disease. Page after page of clear
line drawings invite young readers to take crayons in

The Penticton Arthritis Society staff works out of
Penticton Regional Hospital. Team members include
physiotherapisis, occupational therapists and a thera-
pist-aide. Funding for the coloring book project was
provided by Smith, Kline and = French Canada
Limited, the Canadian Occupational Therapy Foun-
dation and the Penticton Branch of the Arthritis
Socicty.
