NORTH VANCOUVER District
and City councils may work
together in providing tighter con-
trols on vicious dogs in the two
municipalities.

District council decided Monday
night to defer consideration of its
proposed dog contro! bylaw
amendments until its Nov. 2 Policy
and Planning Committee meeting,

This decision was made in
reponse to a letter from the city in-
forming the district of the city’s
proposed changes to its dog con-
trol bylaw.

Both the district and the city are
seeking a definition of vicious or
potentially dangerous dogs and an
increase in fines for dog owners
who do not comply with the
bylaw,

The proposed changes in the
district's dog control bylaw would
provide a maximum fine of $2,000
for the owners of vicious dogs who
commit an offence under the new
bylaw provisions. This is an in-
crease from the maximum penalty
of $500 in the present bylaw.
