Forty-eight students from Maplewood Community Schuu! took part in the trip Feb. 2to 11 to Sapporo, Japan. Community School coordinator Barrett Fullerton said the students, in grades six and seven, arrived in Sapporo in time to see the city’s annual snow festival. “There were seven blocks of snow sculpture. It was quite a sight to see that,” he said. The students and their chaperones took part in the ex- change after a year-long fund-rais- ing drive, that included a raffle prize of a trip on the Concorde. This is the second year that stu- dents from Maplewood have trav- elled to Japan. The first trip, which saw 39 students go to Japan, took place two years ago. Students from Sapporo will be visiting Morth Vancouver in mid-March for one week. These students are from the Come Back Salmon group, which Fullerton said is similar to B.C.’s Salmon Enhancement program.
