B6 - Wednesday, July 11, 1984 - North Shore News VACATIONING families are now filling up the lots in the Capilano R.V. park beside the Capilano River. This is the only camp for R.V.’s and other campers on the North Shore. KEEPING your car neat and clean is more than just a good habit, it can add years to the life of any automobile. By frequently cleaning both the interior and exterior of your car, you can significantly reduce the rate at which it depreciates. CANADA’S HARD ON CARS Automobiles have to operate year round, in all kinds of weather, and in less than ideal conditions. This relentless exposure to temperature extremes, ice and snow, rain, salt and dust quickly robs them of their showroom lustre. Paint starts to dull, glass and metal! trim become pitted and scratched, White-walls get scuffed, and fenders begin to rust. While you can’t completely prevent this constant assault from taking place, you can limit its effect. Let’s start with the outside of your car first The main exterior surfaces in need of protection are paint, metal, glass and, more recently, vinyl. Frequent washing with lukewarm water and mild soap to remove salt’ and grime, followed by a pes 7 ie Fi A batt SEC ae ys thorough rinsing and drying, is the single most important defence against their premature wear. FIRT AID Occasionally, though, a lit- tle first aid is in order, as in the case of chipped paint. If the damage to painted sur- faces is minimal, a number of excellent touch-up products are available for do-it- yourselfers. Check with your technician, he’ll recommend one for your car. Otherwise, take your car to a reputable body shop and have it touch- ed up when rust starts to ap- pear. Don’t put it off, because once rust gets a foothold, f never stops. A good wax combined with a little elbow grease should discourage rust and keep your car looking great CLEAN INSIDE AND OUT Frequent and thorough cleaning of your car’s intenor is no less important A vacuum and a soft brush will remove most of the loose dirt that accumulates in carpets and upholstery. Sometimes, though, you may have to remove a stain. For the really tough ones like grease, shoe polish, gum or crayon, a chemical cleanser is the only thing that will work. Make sure it's one that's recommended in your owner’s manual, that you use the recommended strength, and that you follow the in- structions printed on the con- tainer to prevent injury to either your car or, more im- portantly, yourself. Egg, coffee, catsup or fruit Juice can usually be removed with mild soap and lukewarm water. And candy, ice cream and chili sauce are best handled by dabbing them with clean, cold water. If they refuse to disappear, it’s back to the recommended chemical cleansers. A CLEAN INVESTMENT The sooner a. stain 1s removed, the tess likely it will become permantly set. A clean car usually means a mechanically sound car, too. And, it's the best way to show you're taking proper care of your investment. cs ry nar pl NORTH VAN UNDERCOATING LTD WHY PAY MORE?? : Spec We re the Protesstonats 24 years in the business $20 $65 $95 ‘Wea C leaning “STOEL 1G) Underc oating intertor clean-up and shampooing $65 Open Saturdays trom 8:00 am Ti 200 pm 987-4477 (please phone for app ) GIN Haverut — own, operator Drive Cool this Summer RAD FLUSH AIR CONDITIONER The NOR EST MICRO FLUSH CHECK-UP cleaning system is the only sate and sure way to thoroughly clean your Our \e-point vondity check ° car's cooling system.
