~ MAILBOX Legion complaint wasn’t nego | Dear Editor: This is a letter of thanks io the neighbor(s) of the Lynn Valley Legion Branch 114. You know who you are although we don’t. You are the person(s) who phoned the fire marshall and the RCMP because of what you were certain was an overabundance of parked cars in and around the premises, obviously an indication of licensing infractions going on inside. The date this time was July 7 and in the early afternoon. If you had been really obser- vant, you should have noticed that, since the previous Monday, the flags outside the legion were being flown at half mast, and at the time of your complaint the large group of people were not party-goers but mourners. The service began with a piper and a color party which you also should have been able to see when they assembled outside. Yes, this was a private funeral that you inter- rupted. A private funeral for a long-time Lynn Valley resident and a much loved member of the Lynn Valley Legion. Possibly you should invest some of your time to get to know us, the members of the Lynn Valley Legion, and find out what we and the legions are realiy all about before you lodge any further com- plaints. A Friend of Art Patricia Hunter Polluted political air Dear Editor: On July 20 residents of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody suffered through a day of pollution readings that soared to , 67. Pitt Meadows got to 63, Langley to 59, Chilliwack to 58 and Abbotsford to 55. The North Shore reading was 29. - Any reading past 50 is consid- éred poor — those with respiratory complaints are told to stay indoors. No wonder Langley Memorial Hespital has recorded increases of Keep clearcuts Dear Editor: After reading the article about the demonstration forest logging proposal, it’s no wonder Ernie Crist is angered. If they are going to have logging demonstrations, why don’t they try to make it something that would be interest- ing to people such as the small- scale logging using horses like 200% in general asthma cases and 40% in severe cases over the past five years. Do the ministries of health and the environment care? Not if we judge them by actions rather than platitudes. Taxing the heck out of those who choose to stay in the pri- vate vehicle makes no sense unless transit alternatives are provided. Until then, politicians are simply spouting a lot of hot, polluted air. Regina Dalton Abbotsford out of Seymour Belgians or Percherons. Let's see if they can do, as I know they could, a decent job without wrecking the forest. Surely the forest industry doesn’t want logs so badly that they have to log in this small! for- est.
