The Jimmie and Marty Party, an evening with Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Marty Brown at the Van- couver Eas* Cultural Centre, brings together two extremely talented country singer-songwriters. Gilmore is already a legend of sorts thanks to his collaboration with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock as the Austin-based Flatlanders. His latest solo, After Awhile, was a critical hit last year. At 26, Kentucky country singer Marty Brown is a bona fide phe- nomenon. The tale of his abrupt rise from obscurity to a first re- cording contract last year is the stuff American dreams are made . of.
