Union action ‘criminal’?

Dear Editor:

We have seen, over the
year, actions by the union
movement that indicate
many of them believe that
they are above the law. | am
not aware, however, of any
action So blatantly wrong as
the one perpetrated by the
CUPE Local 389 in North
Vancouver. Although I am
not a lawyer, 11 would appear
that their action should not
only be the subject of a civil
action for damages caused to
the alderman, but more
critically, should be subject
to criminal charges.

elected to office to represent
the best interests of North
Vancouver residents. His
ability to do that in an un-
prejudiced manner has been
totally undermined by the
union's action. How many
elected representatives else-
where might be forced to
compromise their principles
due to real or perceived
threats against their
financial well being?

umions or anyone else's
reaction be to such an ac-
tion? Undoubtedly and
justifiably their reaction
would be total repulsion!

Although in this case the
damage is already done, I
hope the response from the
public will be sufficiently
condemning to prevent this
from happening again.
