LET THEM DIE WITH DIGNITY

All of us that love our pets have to face the fact that one day we
will have to lose them. Each of us grows alder each day including
our pets and sooner than we had hoped it’s time to tet thern go.

We tend to watch our four legged friend gracefully age and then
suddenly we cannot believe just how long they have been a part
of the family — and that's the hard part — they are a member of
the family and they belong to it.

Many of us try to deny the evidence that our dear friends are ag-
ing — we ignore the first few signs and then we go to elaborate
lengths to protong their life. But | believe that wnen our loyal and
trusting companion gives us that look that says to take away the

pain, we do owe them a quick and painless end. We took such care .

of them in their life — we shouldn't let them down at the ending of it.

Having a pet grow old is only natural, but with the onset of health
prodlems and discomfort, you have to be strong enough to take
responsibility for making the decision to !et them go. This shouid
never be done with a sense of guilt and !oss but with a feeting of
pride because you never let your old friend suffer and you really
cared about the quality of his tife.

. Of course you'll grieve for them as grieving for them is a part of
loving them. It hurts to lose a pet you've had for many years but
then again you cannot grieve for someone, human or animal, that
never gave you love. Then soon, the memory of your pet will begin
to heat you and to give you joy again.

I know, I’ve just said my final good-bye to one of the best friends
I've ever had — but | Jet him die with dignity.
