Slated for construction in December in) North Vancouver District's Indian River Road area, the 13-classroom facility will ac- commodate 400 elementary school students and 50 kinderosrten children in one of the district's most quickly growing neigheorhoods. “Tt will eventually have the larg- est elementary school population in the district,’’ said Trustee Richard Walton. Trustee Anne Macdonald said that four subdivisions are being planned in the area, ‘cach as large as Lynn Valley.” Two new schools are in the works — Dorothy Lynas (named for the trustee who kas served on the board for approximately 33 years) and a replacement for Bur- rardview, which might be called “Cove Cliff?’ school. Seycove, built approximately nine years ago, was the last new school to be built in the district. Jim Barnum of Carlberg Jackson Partners Architects pres- ented the drawings of Dorothy Lynas Elementary, which will be located off Indian River Road ad- jacent to Neighbourhood Park. Several adjustments have been made to the plans, bringing it closer to Inlet Crescent for easy access to parking. The single-storey structure has, in addition to the 13 classrooms, a gymnasium and = multi-purpose room, There is provision for four extra classrooms to allow for the future expansion that the school district estimates wil! be necessary. The frame structure will be finished jin stucco and cedar to blend in with the residential char- acter of the neighborhood. Assistant school superintendent Pat Bell thanked the members of the volunteer consultative commit- tee who have participated in the new school’s planning.
