Here are some tips that should help you and your family enjcy the fireplace for many seasons to come. @ Don’t burn Christmas wrapp- ing paper or trees in the fireplace. It’s not an incinerator. ¢— -: ¢ Hang Christmas stockings on either side of the open hearth, never directly above it. _©@ Don’t put the Christinas tree near the fireplace. e Have. your fireplace cleaned before the start of the season and again before the end of the season, if used frequently. e Burn no more than three pieces of wood at one time. The trouble could be due to one or more of the following reasons: improper chimney design; damper not open wide enough; a mechanized ex- haust system, ‘such as the fan above the stove or your clothes dryer, is in operation in your home. © Keep the area in front of and to the sides of your fireplace clear of combustible materials and fur- nishings. * Ashes should be removed on a regular basis. Remove them only after the fire is completely out and the ashes are cold.
