But although college officials
had originally asked council for
$200,000 for the facility, the city's
finance commitige decided to defer
the remaining $150,000 until the
budget committee meets in the spr-
ing of next year.

The complex will include a
15,000-square-foot gym, an exer-
cise room and four racquet courts,
something city director of reere-
ation Gary Young told council
would have little negative impact
on existing recreational facilities.

NORTH VANCOUVER City Council voted Monday to
give $50,000 to Capilano College to help construct a $3.8-

Ald. Ralph Hall suggested the
city reduce its total contribution to
$150,000. Based on user statistics,
the District of North Vancouver
was to give $600,000 to the pro-
ject, but only gave $400,000, Hall
said.

“If they're not willing to take
the full burden required of them 1}
don’t see why we should,"’ he said.

Said Ald. Dana Taylor: ‘I think
the facitity is a worthwhile one and
one to which the City of North
Vancouver should contribute.
