Shore, Kelowna share cricket wins THE NORTH SHORE Cricket Club travelled to Kelowna recently for their annual weekend of Festi- val cricket and split a pair of games with Kelowna despite posting good all-round perfor- mances, Chris Foxon and David Cooke were top scorers for the North Shore side. In its first game, North Shore dismissed Kelowna for 99 runs due mainly to Cooke's good bowling and sharp fielding by Kenny Brad- shaw, Gary Collins, Jim Mitchell and Chris Tottle . Bob Adie and Collins each took an excellent catch in the action. When batting, North Shore got off to a shaky start, but Bradshaw and Adie played fine innings to ensure victory for their side. In other action the North Shore team defeated Burnaby/Everest at Douglas Park when they dismissed the home for 64 runs and made the required runs for the loss of eight wickets. Bradshaw, Collins and Stephen Hinkson bowled very well for NSCC. Billy Sims top-scored with 17 for NSCC, but it was Salim Nathani and Adie who scw the visitors through to victory. On the same day, NSCC’'s third team defeated Abbotsford convin- cingly at Norgate Park when they dismissed the visitors for 81 runs and replied with a total of 82 for 2. Richard Walker, Alistair Barrett and Decker Haig bowled well for the home team. Haig and Bernie DeVerteuil were also outstanding in the field. 7 VANCOUVER Y.M.C.A. On July 26, NSCC’s first team defeated the Caribe second team convincingly at Norgate Park when they scored 90 runs and bowled the visitors for 39 runs. Hinkson, Larry White and Doug Ede were the principal scorers for North Shore. Collins and Brad- shaw bowled brilliantly for the home team and were backed up by very good fielding. The NSCC first team remains unbeaten to date. an, WINTER CLUB SESSION Corney leads ringette school KEITH CORNEY will be the head ringette instructor at the North Shore Winter Club's (NSWC) summer hockey-ringette school. Corney is the past president of the British Columbia Ringette Association and has coached pro- vincial teams at the Canadian championships four times. His Tween ‘A’ teams at the NSWC have won the B.C. title the last two years. He will be assisted by the sister duo Alison and Laurie Bennett, who have been all-star players in both Manitoba and B.C. The two-week school, which began recently at the North Van- LAWNBOWLING couver club and ends Aug. 29, in- cludes on-ice sessions and dry-land training five times a week, The NSWC school also features hockey sessions for novice, atom, pee-wee, bantam and midget-aged players, a special clite category for top bantam and midgets, plus a ‘moan and groan”’ specialty group for oldtimers. In addition, there will be power-skating and goaltending sessions conducted by specialists in these areas. WV hosts championships THE WEST Vancouver Lawnhowling Club will be hosting the National Lawnbowling Cham- pionships for the visually impaired all this week. Lawnbowlers from across Canada are be competing in this annual event, which began at the local club Aug. 18 and will wind up on Friday. Singles and mixed doubled categories will roll off Thursday at 9 a.m. Play will conclude Friday at 5 p.m. Games will be played ail day every day to Friday. Spectators are welcome.
