67 - Friday, November 15, 1985 - North Shore News Puppcorn puppets will entertain kids of all ages LOIS WALKER and her Prime Minister Joe Clark. Puppcorn Puppets will be appearing November !7 at 1} and 3 p.m. at North Van- couver's Centennial Theatre. Walker, producer and host of Mid-Canada Televi- sion’s award-winning Pupp- corn Family Fun Show (now known as Puppcorn Place), will be the closing performer in the Children's Super .Scries of concerts sponsored by the theatre. The series was designed to’ introduce North Shore children and their families to top-name children’s re- cording artists and television performers. A North Vancouver resi- dent with extensive experi- ence in creative arts educa- tion, Walker has written and produced numerous children’s books, records and cassette tapes. Her 1980 television special, ‘Invite a Puppcorn to Christmas Dinner,’’ won a national television award as Canada’s Outstanding Special: for Children. In 1984, she won a CANPRO Award for outstanding children’s television. Her-stage show is a fast- pace musical variety hour, combining a mop-haired, rag-bag collection of Pupp- corn puppets: together with Walker's considerable tal- ents as a singer, songwriter and storyteller. Designed for three to 12° year-olds and their parents, the show has live, sing-along music, original songs and lots of ‘audience participa- tion... - She has staged over 1,000 shows across Canada and the United States since 1978, including. performances for the families of Governor- General Ed Shreyer, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau ‘and Her recent performances at Richmond's James Cowand Theatre and the Surrey Arts Centre were sellouts. Though primarily used as a visual aid, the Puppcorns themselves are show-stealers, but with a difference. Walker makes all her cre- ations from disposable household items and part of her show is spent teaching and encouraging children to make their own. ‘‘Learning to create your own characters from scratch is an experience children remember long after the per- formance itself,’’ said Walker, who receives (and answers) about 1,000 letters a year from children. “1 find it an absolute delight and consider it a ma- jor accomplishment to receive feedback from children who have seen our show. It shows we’re having a positive effect.”’ Tickets for the show are available at the North Van- ccuver Recreation “Centre (988-6166), the Vancouver Ticket Centre (280-4444) and at the Theatre box office at. showtime.
