WEDNESDAY SPEECH for WEST VANCOUVER-Howe Sound Socreds got the Expo commercial Wednesday night, as the world fair’s public affairs director George Mad- den allayed concerns over tht future of the pro- ject and extolled the virtues of the fair. Madden touched on the continuing disucssions about the Expo labor situation, the fate of the project after the world’s fair and the possibil- ity of the North Shore get- ting involved in Expo during his speech. **Expo is a catalyst to the years ahead and we should use it to our benefit,’? Mad- den told the crowd, explain- ing that 31 of an expected 42 nations have signed up for Expo, bringing with them approximately $400 million in investment money. Maddem. added that ‘‘we have to have confidence in the people the government has appointed’’ to deal with the labor problems that are perceived to be threatening the Expo project and said there will be no problem in completing the Expo development within the $806 million budget. “*Rest assured that Jim Pattison wants no surprises in that budget,’? Madden said, adding that if there was one man who could bring the fair in on time and within budget it was Pat- tison.
