Police spokesman Mike Hooper explained that “the current is very strong and there’s very little access to the river in cases of emergency.” Even strong swimmers face difficulty with the swift undercurrent, submerged rocks and low temperature of the water, he added. Swimming areas in other North Shore Parks have life guards, Hooper said, and these areas should be used.
