From its inception, he has done the teaching of high school students in North Vancouver ... and incidentally, North Vancouver has led the North American with the idea of conducting driving classes in the high school. (And thanks to Tom McMillan for the photograph and article.) 0 BORUS ame North Shore GENEROUS locals are already gearing up to do their part for those in need during the Christmas season, The West Vancouver Santi Claus Fund and the North Vancouver Christmas Bureau were both initiated during de depression vears. They aim to make Chrisunas a lide brighter for families and children) in need, by providing food, gifts and toys. It’s all accomplished through a huge community effort which includes support from individuals and commu- nity groups such as the Salvation Army, the Legions, schools and other community groups. In West Van, the Santa Claus Fund also receives assis- tance in the form of space for storage and coordination at West Vancouver Fire Hall No. I. The Firefighters also assist in deliveries. They dress in every day attire and volunteer their personal vehicles during their time off. The Santa Claus Fund gets up and running Nov. 20 — After that, donations of food or new toys may be made at any of the West Vancouver Fire Halls. The North Vancouver Christmas Bureau, which is now a program of Family Services of the North Shore, receives support) from the Harvest Project, which has tra- ditionally provided space for administration and storage for the program, The bureau runs — the Sponsor-A-Family program, in which donors sponsor a food and gift hamper for a North Shore family who would other- wise go without. Sponsors include individuals, groups, families, community groups or office colleagues. The bureau also collects donations of new, unused, unwrapped toys for its ‘Tov Shop, where families come to select toys and gifts tor their children. The bureau is also seeking volunteers to help in the office, to pick up food and toys and to manage the phones. Call the Christmas Bureau at 984 9627 for more information.
