gun shot to death on Burrard Reserve

ALLAN Bell had been in a dispute with a man who
owed him money since 1992,

On Tuesday night the 42-year-old father of three Jost his life over it.

Bell was armed with an Uzi-type pistol (a loaded Intra-Tee 9 mm Luger) when
he was gunned down by North Vancouver RCMP officers on Dollarton Highway
on Tsleil-Waututh land (Burrard Reserve).

At approximately 9 p.m. an armed Bell had gone to the home of Alex Page in
the 3000-block of Dollarton Highway. Bell, through his company Allan Bell and

Associates Ltd., had won a $10,000 settlement against Page in 1993 tor electrical
work on Page’s home. The actual amount was more than $15,000, but small claims
court can grant a maximum of $10,000,

Witnesses say that Bell chased Page out of his home and down to Page's sister's
home. Police, including an officer with a dog, arrived. Bell was ordered to drop his
gun. Witnesses say police tired at least 10 bullets at the man. Bell died at the scene.

“E don't know where he got that gun. It’s totally out of character for him ...
You'd never meet a more level-headed guy,” said Wayne Kirk yesterday.

Kirk had known Bell for 15 years. They were business partners and electricians
who worked on industrial and commercial projects. Bell was best man at Kirk's Jan.
1 wedding.

Kirk spoke to the News at the neatly organized Bewicke Avenue office of Allan
Bell and Associates Ltd. During the interview, several people came in or phoned to
express their condolences.
