THE Boys have grown up. The a cappella quartet Me and the Boys began singing while stu- dents at Windsor Secondary, and rose to local acclaim as runners-up in the North Shore Youth Contest a few vears back. Now in their mid-20s, brothers Adam and Alex Kozak and good buddies Austin Gangur and Shawn Davids have forged ahead with solo careers. Adam is a semi-professional opera singer, Alex a Coquidam high-school teacher, Shawn a stu- dent in UBC's education depart- ment and Austin a waiter and free- fance musician. Bur the tour friends stili find time to harmonize. In February they competed in a radio station-sponsored sing-off at a Burnaby shopping mall, with their rendition of O Canada beat- ing out 609 other entrics to tie for first place. In March they placed fourth in the Paciiic Northwest a cappella championships in Olympia, Washington. Later in the month the quartet woke up listeners with an carly- morning rendition of Da Do Ron Rou on a popular morning radio show. And next Friday at noon, they'll be centre court at GM Place to sing O Canada before the Grizzlies meet the Portland Traililazers. Then Adam Kozak will step forward for an encore performance — a solo renditian of Star-Spangled Banner. So you want ro be in pictures...
