A bargain at $27,000 —

MOBILE, Ala. (UPI) - It
needs a brake job and new
paint, but an attorney and an
investor are perfectly
satisfied with the 1972 Rolls-
Royce convertible they
purchased for $27,000 at a
public auction.

The Rolls Corniche of-
ficially was bought by Steve
Windom, an attorney, in a
Customs Service auction
Tuesday that lasted only five
minutes. Investor Jim Mattei

apparently will be a part
owner as well.

“Just crazy, I guess.”
Mattei said when asked why
the two bought the car. A
more obvious reason is that

the car was appraised at
$75,000.

“The money you have to
spend for cars these days, it's
very different to get
something worth the money
you have- to pay,” said

the car went for is a very
good investment.”

The lawyer said the car
would be worth $140,000 if it
were new.

Windom said the Corniche
needed new brakes, a new
convertible top, paint work
and a new windshield,

The white automobile
belonged to Jennifer Or-,
chard, an Enghshwoman

who had the car shipped to
Miami in 1976, but abruptly
left the United States
without paying the required
$698 duty fee.
